Founded in 1881 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland under the label LAI Ditescheim & Freres SA, it was in 1905 that the brand changed its name to Movado and became synonymous with both Swiss-made watches and more accessibly priced timepieces. The name Movado means ‘Always In Motion’ in the constructed auxiliary language of Esperanto and many of the watch models are also named using this phonetic language, including Bela, Fiero and Brila.
One of Movado watches most renowned designs is the 1947 Museum model which is celebrated for its distinctive style and features a compelling gold dot on the dial in place of the 12 o'clock, to signify the sun at high noon. The legendary Museum watch was the first dial to ever be placed in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art and today, not only can the Museum watch be found in many varieties but that iconic dot design also features in Movado’s Edge, Rondiro and 1881 collections.
Movado watches are Swiss-made, minimalistic and superior in craftsmanship. Wining over 200 international awards and owning over 100 patents, Movado watches are sometimes sporty and sometimes striking but always technical and ahead of their time.
