When it comes to keeping time in America, it all begins with the railways. It was the railways, and the dividing up of the country into standardised time zones, that formalised what time meant in such a vast, previously untamed nation. And, as time changes, so do the devices that measure it.
That process began with Webb C. Ball, Chief Inspector for the Lake Shore lines and the originator of an inspection system that birthed the first use of time signals in watches, bringing true accuracy to all his customers.
It was the grisly Kipton crash, in which poor timekeeping led to a terrible accident that claimed eleven lives and destroyed two locomotives, that truly cemented Ball's approach. Ball was called in to investigate the crash and make sure nothing similar could ever happen again, instilling in him an appreciation for the necessity of accurate timekeeping that has echoed out from his lifetime to this very day.
Ball watches are stylish, they're functional, but they're also the product of a legacy that considers accurate timekeeping a matter of life and death. Ball offer a variety of luxury watches for men, including the Roadmaster Marine, which is reinforced with ceramic bezel, the Engineer Master II Normandy commemorative timepiece, and the Engineer Hydrocarbon Moon Navigator, with moon phase and tide indicators.
